The American Association for Justice, a national trial lawyer association, released its list of the ten worst insurance companies earlier this year. The top ten is as follows:

1.Allstate

2.Unum
3.AIG
4.State Farm
5.Conseco
6.WellPoint
7.Farmers
8.United Health
9.Torchmark
10.Liberty Mutual
What does the list mean? To me it means that if you are insured by one of the above and you cause an accident, there is a good chance you will end up being involved in litigation and the process could last years. After I read through the list 6 months ago, I made a personal decision to change my insurance to a local insurance company that is known to resolve claims fairly. I discovered through personal experience that not all companies listen to the advice of strategists that denying clear liability and delaying payout as long as possible is in their best interests.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper talked about some of Allstate’s tactics here.
