A couple of years ago, our law firm started sponsoring the Dog Lake Marathon (and Half) near White Pass, Washington. Each year we volunteer, donate some money, and members of the firm run either the full or half marathon. Occasionally people ask what running has to do with our law practice.

Here is the answer I could give to the Associated Press:

Our personal injury practice in the Tri-Cities revolves around two main responsibilities: helping our clients to receive the treatment they need, when they need it, and making sure the liable party pays the bill.

Treatment for car accidents often includes chiropractic, physical therapy, and therapeutic massage. Studies have shown that in addition to this type of treatment, walking and running are very helpful in facilitating recovery and even minimizing the possibility of recurring weakness. Other studies have also shown that people who regularly endure the aches and pains involved in endurance sports are more pain tolerant, another beneficial trait of those who are recovering from injuries. Anderson Law supports the Dog Lake Marathon (and Half) as an event that has a great community benefit that can also help those who have been injured in a car accident.

But since the AP isn’t reading this post, I’ll just say that the Dog Lake Marathon (and Half) is awesome and deserves to be supported for three reasons. First, it is a marathon. What’s there not to like about a marathon? I think it’s fair to say that a lot of the world’s ills would be cured if we all ran marathons. Second, it is located in the beautiful Gifford Pinchot forest and near Mt. Rainier in one of the most scenic areas of the Pacific Northwest. Third, it’s a downhill Boston Qualifier. Although the fastest marathons are completely flat, this downhill race is pretty fast and very fun to run. This last year we started above the clouds and ran into them.

Anyway, we support this race and hope to do so long into the future. If you have a chance to run this race, I highly recommend it to my friends and family. Even if you’re just doing it for the health of it.
